Bio

Amanda received her B.S. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Davis in 2010 and her Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2019. At UCSB, she was a member of the Pete Coffey Lab where she studied Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). After graduation she joined the ranks in industry as a Scientific Writer at ArcherDX, headquartered in Boulder, CO. She is currently the Scientific Communications manager at ArcherDX.

During her undergraduate career Amanda worked as a laboratory technician in an environmental toxicology lab. Here she learned about cell culture techniques (in-between washing dishes and filling pipette tips), an important trait that would later secure her a job., Amanda was also an active member of her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, during her time at UC Davis.

After graduating from UC Davis, Amanda was employed as a Research Associate at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was a member of the Clive Svendsen Laboratory, where the lab aimed to treat neurodegenerative disorders like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Huntington’s Disease using stem cells. She played a critical role in pre-clinical work for a Phase I/II clinical trial using stem cells to treat ALS.

Amanda decided to come back to school to pursue her Ph.D. During her time, she was awarded the Storke Fellowship for having the highest GPA, the Rothmann Fellowship for being the top incoming doctoral student, and the Amgen Fellowship.

Amanda was a mentor because she understood the struggles of college, finding a job after graduation, and navigating graduate school. She loved helping young students find their path.
