Dr. Paige Ruiz, MD, MA

Paige graduated with a B.S. in Pharmacology from UC Santa Barbara in 2012 prior to pursuing a Master’s in MCDB with an emphasis in pharmacology and biotechnology. Her undergraduate research focused on the genetic susceptibility of methamphetamine addiction in mice looking at the primary neurotransmitters implicated in addiction.

Throughout graduate school, she was one of the graduate teaching assistants for the pharmacology lectures and labs, worked in the Wilson laboratory studying in vitro microtubule polymerization, and was an emergency room scribe. It was during her first year as a graduate student, that she and two friends (Chana & Shawhin) decided to confound BIOME (now GBMA) - & it was one of the best decisions they ever made.

The ultimate end game was always applying to medical school, but she wanted to gain a stronger foundation in pharmacology, research, teaching, and public speaking prior to applying.

She completed medical school at UC San Diego and graduated in June of 2020. She now is completing an emergency medicine residency at Stanford in Palo Alto. When she’s not learning how to save lives, she enjoys playing with her black lab, hiking, knitting, and hot yoga.
