After two years at community college, I transferred to UC San Diego and graduated with a B.S. in Human Biology, and M.S. in Biology. At UCSD I spent a few years researching the genetic network controlling fruit development in the plant modelArabidopsis thaliana. After receiving my M.S. degree, I worked as a lab technician in the same lab for a number of years before applying to graduate school. I am now working on my Ph.D. in the Coffey lab, where I am designing cell culture platforms to model the blinding disease age-related macular degeneration.
